Victoria "Tori" Howard, CYT, RYT
In 2006 I fell into my yoga practice by looking for an athletic alternative to the gym. What I learned in my time at the yoga studio was that yoga was so much more than just an athletic workout. I realized that after each and every class I took that I felt more amazing, physically, mentally and spiritually. This feeling prompted me to try other studios, other methods of yoga, seeking to find my “yoga home”. When I would travel for my job, I was fortunate enough to try different studios and styles throughout the US, Canada and Australia. I fell in love with the practice and wanted to take it further so I pursued a 200hr RYT Yoga Alliance teacher training as well as a 30hr level 1 Intensive teacher training which would enable me to share my passion for yoga with others. I completed my teacher trainings with Jill Blumenstock E-RYT whose focus and style is a vinyasa and anusara (founded by John Friend) inspired yoga which incorporates a heavy focus on correct alignment principals for the yoga postures as well as being “heart oriented”.
Both trainings incorporated meditation, asanas, pranayama, observing the eight limbs of yoga, yoga philosophy, correct alignment, adjustments, chanting, mantra and anatomy. We were also trained in teaching to special populations including pre & post natal, children and seniors. I continually attend workshops and retreats in order to continue to expand my knowledge of the yoga tradition so that I may be able to pass this along to my students.
I have settled into a Hatha style infused with vinyasa flow and filled with gratitude. My classes are based on what I like to call “gratitude yoga”, which integrates the physical postures, breath and mindful meditation. It seeks to cultivate a sense of gratitude for all our individual gifts and to encourage self acceptance. I hope to bring all my students a sense of peace so that they may incorporate their gratitude into their everyday lives sharing their gifts with others.
