Ron Van Nostrand
Ron Van Nostrand returns to The Center to resume his former position as facilitator of the monthly drum circle! Ron looks forward to assisting participants on their journey towards finding their center and restoring balance through drums, rattles, chants, therapeutic touch, gentle movement, laughter and joy. Through these circles, he hopes to in turn raise the collective consciousness of the community as a whole.
Ron first began on the path of alternative healing in the seventies when he studied with herbal healers in the foothills of the Adirondacks. It was while living there he began a musical program to enhance self-esteem for people with disabilities and discovered the healing abilities of music. He continues a similar program to this day at Freedom Recreational Services Camp in Auburn every summer.
Ron follows many traditions of the Ancient Order of the Essenes and has embraced the concepts of ceremony through the works of Wolf Moondance and Sun Bear. He has studied Yoga as a student of Yogi Pranabatmananda. Keeping an open mind he has studied various other techniques and has attended many workshops dealing with alternative practices. He is also a certified Reiki practitioner.
In addition to co-facilitating the Sacred Circle Drumming for two years at the former Center, located at that time on William St., he has taught drum circle workshops entitled “Drumming through the Chakras” and has done stress release workshops entitled “Listening to the Rhythms Within” for local agencies. He currently facilitates other drum circles in the central New York area.
Ron enjoys creative writing and has been publishing the periodical, “Olive Trees” for the last 22 years along with it’s predecessor, “Re*connection Revelation” for the two years prior. He also wrote a weekly column for the Auburn Citizen for a couple of years until 2004. He is also a musician and can be heard locally as half the duo, Homeslice with his bosom friend, Dan Cleveland. His love of the earth and all life led to his involvement in the Green Movement since the eighties. He ran for New York State Assembly in 1999 and co-chaired the Cayuga County Green Party for a number of years.
Please come join him the second Friday of each month at the Center from 7:30 to 9:30 as we celebrate our lives through reconnecting with our rhythms within.
